Why when applying powder do you have to apply in circular motions??

so it's more even and so you can get in every crevice. imagine if you went in stripy motions you'd more than likely end up with streaks of powder. although, it is important to try and go along in the direction of your hairline as much as you can, this way it looks more natural (:Makeup help?!!!!!!!!!!!?
